Since the beginning of the human race one thing has been a constant on the human experience; sex. Throughout much of that time the focus has generally been on men and what they wanted/needed but then came the 20th century and the sexual revolution. While sex as a business has always been geared towards men it was generally the women who got all the toys because, after all, men aren’t too complicated and women are the best sex toy there is. sex toys have seen a considerable rise in the last 2 decades partly because there is always a market for sex related goods but also because men have become more discriminating in what they are looking for.
For the first time in the history of sex men are more avidly exploring their sexual identities. A good pornographic movie alone won’t cut it anymore. As a species we aren’t good at talking about sex because it is so intimate and defining to us as humans and to what we believe our genders to be. There are many erogenous zones on the male body but many went unexplored for a long time because real men aren’t supposed to do certain things.
By most all industry standards over 68% of all sex toys sold are bought by men and while a lot of that buying is for the women in their lives and to spice up sex lives in the bedroom with some toy play it’s been noted that at least half of these sales are for the men themselves to explore with on their own.Once it was finally understood that men were partaking of the sex toy revolution as much for themselves manufacturers started in earnest making toys with men in mind as well. We’ve come a long way in our sexual explorations and yet still have a long way to go but one thing is for sure, this will never be a boring trip.
